Description

The Allen-Bradley 1771-P6S/B is a Series B auxiliary power supply module designed for PLC-5 Programmable Controllers and 1771 Control Systems. Operating with a nominal input voltage of 220V AC (input range of 194–264V AC RMS), this module delivers a backplane output current of 8 Amperes at +5V DC to power critical system components.

To protect system integrity and prevent data corruption, the 1771-P6S/B features an automated backplane shutdown mechanism. If the AC line voltage drops below the minimum operating threshold, the module immediately generates a shutdown signal in the backplane to ensure only valid data is retained in memory. The shutdown signal is automatically lifted once the line voltage recovers above the low-voltage limit. The module occupies a single slot, mounts directly onto the I/O chassis side plate, and ships with a 5-position terminal block for field wiring.

Installation & Configuration Guidelines

• Sense Jumper Selection: Before inserting the module, configure the two jumpers located near the gold-plated back edge connectors. These jumpers dictate whether the system utilizes local sensing or remote sensing to regulate the power output.
• Paralleling Power Supplies: If your I/O chassis configuration requires more than 8A of current, you can parallel two compatible supply modules (such as two -P6S units) on the same chassis. A 1771-CT Power-Supply Paralleling Cable must be connected between the two modules to enable cross-communication and balanced load sharing.
• Chassis Mounting: The module is engineered to occupy 1 slot and should be secured tightly to the 1771 I/O chassis side plate to ensure appropriate thermal dissipation and mechanical stability.
• Fusing Precautions: Ensure the input line is protected using the specified 1.5A, 250V slow-blow fuse to prevent damage to internal circuitry from transient inrush currents.
