Tutto sui PLC: la CPU
A practical engineering guide to PLC CPU operation, from deterministic scan cycles and I/O image tables to memory, communications, diagnostics, redundancy, processor sizing, and reliable system...
Engineered for DIN rail mounting in industrial control environments, the Beckhoff CX1010-0020 serves as the central processing core of the CX1010 Embedded PC system. This module integrates an Intel Pentium MMX-compatible processor running at 500 MHz to execute deterministic control tasks and communication protocols. Designed without moving parts, it relies on passive convection cooling and solid-state Compact Flash storage to ensure long-term reliability in demanding automation architectures.

| Shipping Weight | 2.0 kg |
| Approvals | CE, UL |
| Interface / Port | Physical Type | Functional Assignment |
|---|---|---|
| LAN Port | RJ45 (8-pin) | 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet connection for host communication and programming |
| Compact Flash Slot | CF Type II with ejector | Solid-state storage for operating system, runtime, and user application data |
| System Bus Connection | PC/104 (16-bit ISA) | Internal data and power interface to adjacent CX1100 power supply modules |
The CX1010-0020 requires a matching CX1100-xxxx power supply module (such as the CX1100-0002 or CX1100-0003) to function, as it does not possess an integrated power supply unit. When replacing older CX1000 series modules, note that while the physical form factor is similar, the CX1010 utilizes a newer chipset architecture. Ensure your TwinCAT configuration is updated to target the correct CPU architecture.
Because this module runs Windows Embedded Standard 2009, write-intensive applications can prematurely wear out the Compact Flash card. It is highly recommended to implement the Enhanced Write Filter (EWF) or File-Based Write Filter (FBWF) in the OS configuration to redirect write operations to RAM, thereby protecting the CF card's physical sectors from excessive write cycles.
Always verify that the internal battery (which backs up the system clock) is functional before commissioning, especially if the unit has been in storage. A depleted battery can cause system time synchronization faults on boot, affecting deterministic log files. The battery is field-replaceable and located behind the front cover.
De-energize the entire system before mounting, unmounting, or modifying any module connections. Failure to isolate the power supply prior to separating the PC/104 system bus can cause permanent electrical damage to the CPU's internal ISA bus pins and connected I/O terminals.
Mount the CX1010-0020 CPU module onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail (EN 60715) in a vertical orientation to facilitate proper passive convection cooling.
Align and slide the CPU module laterally along the DIN rail to couple it with the CX1100 power supply module. Ensure the PC/104 bus connectors engage smoothly and lock the modules together using the integrated locking mechanism.
Insert the 128 MB Compact Flash card containing the operating system into the CF slot until it clicks securely into place.
Connect the RJ45 Ethernet cable to the LAN port and apply 24V DC power to the coupled CX1100 power supply module to initiate the boot sequence.
