The IP1002-B520 is dedicated to DeviceNet networks. If your system architecture migrates to Profibus DP, the IP1002-B310 serves as the direct physical equivalent. For modern EtherCAT architectures, transition to the EP1008-0001. Ensure that the correct EDS (Electronic Data Sheet) file is loaded into your DeviceNet scanner (e.g., Allen-Bradley 1756-DNB) to prevent mapping offsets in the 8-bit process image.
When daisy-chaining auxiliary power through the M8 connectors, the cumulative current must not exceed 4 A. Exceeding this limit will cause thermal degradation of the internal power rails and M8 pins. Additionally, if the total length of the DeviceNet trunk line exceeds 100 meters, ensure the baud rate is manually capped or verified, as automatic detection can fail on highly capacitive networks without proper termination resistors (121 Ohms at both physical ends).
Because the PA6 polyamide housing is non-conductive, functional grounding is not automatically achieved via physical mounting. To ensure robust EMC immunity and prevent transient noise from corrupting the 3.0 ms input filters, run a dedicated grounding strap from one of the 3.5 mm mounting screws directly to the machine's functional earth plane.
CRITICAL WARNING
Isolate all power sources before mounting or wiring the module. Failure to de-energize the control and load voltages can result in equipment damage, unexpected sensor triggering, or communication faults on the active DeviceNet trunk.
Mount the module on a flat surface using two M3 screws through the 3.5 mm mounting holes. Ensure the mounting surface is clean and free of vibration.
Connect the 5-pin M12 DeviceNet cable to the bus interface, ensuring the locking ring is hand-tightened to maintain the IP67 seal.
Wire the 24 V DC power supply to the M8 feed connector. If downstream modules are used, connect the M8 downstream cable to the next node.
Attach the digital sensors to the M12 input channels. Seal any unused M12 ports with protective caps to prevent moisture ingress.
