Product Description

Description

The Triconex 3703E is a highly reliable Isolated Analog Input Module designed specifically for Tricon systems. As a core component of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), this module features three independent input channels to perform high-accuracy signal acquisition from field sensors using Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) architecture. The Triconex 3703E supports 0-5 VDC or 0-10 VDC differential isolated signal inputs, which are software-configurable via TriStation 1131. Each channel provides independent signal conditioning and opto-isolation between the field and the system, effectively preventing a single-channel failure from affecting other channels. The module utilizes a built-in Mid-Value Selection algorithm to vote on the three sets of acquired data, ensuring the highest data integrity, functional safety, and continuous system availability in critical industrial protection applications.

Features

  • Utilizes Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) architecture with three completely independent input channels.
  • Supports 16-point differential isolated analog inputs, providing up to 200V peak channel-to-channel isolation.
  • Input voltage ranges are configurable via TriStation 1131 software for 0-5 VDC or 0-10 VDC (including a +6% overrange capability).
  • Features comprehensive, continuous online self-diagnostics to monitor channel operational status in real time.
  • Supports Hot-Spare functionality, allowing replacement of faulty modules while the system is online without interrupting the process.
  • Mechanically keyed design prevents incorrect insertion into the chassis slots.

Applications

  • Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD)
  • Fire and Gas Detection Systems (F&G)
  • Boiler and Burner Management Systems (BMS)
  • High-reliability control for steam turbines and large rotating machinery
  • Safety parameter monitoring in critical process industries

Installation Guidelines

  • Chassis Slot Positioning: The module features a mechanically keyed design to ensure proper insertion into the designated Tricon chassis slot. Push the module smoothly into place and securely tighten the retention screws.
  • External Wiring Network: Connection must be made via a dedicated External Termination Panel (ETP), which interfaces with the Tricon chassis backplane using standard interface cables.
  • Hot-Spare Configuration: To enable Hot-Spare functionality, an identical backup module can be installed in the adjacent empty slot. The system will automatically execute a bumpless online switchover if a primary module fault is detected.
  • Environmental Protection: Since Tricon systems do not offer special protection against dust or corrosive atmospheres, the module must be installed within an industrial control enclosure that meets NEMA protection rating standards.

Compliance and Certifications

  • TÜV Rheinland: Certified for SIL 1-3 applications (in compliance with IEC 61508 safety requirements), EN 54 (fire and gas detection standard), and NFPA 72/8501/8502.
  • CSA: Complies with North American electrical safety standards and is approved for use in designated jurisdictions.
  • Factory Mutual (FM): Suitable for Class I, Division 2, Temperature T4, Groups A, B, C, D hazardous indoor locations (or outdoor enclosures meeting NEMA 4 requirements).
  • CE Mark: Complies with the EU EMC Directive (89/336/EEC) and Low Voltage Directive (72/23/EEC).
  • U.S. NRC: Certified by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for use in nuclear Class 1E safety control applications.
