Product Description

The Triconex 4329 is a Network Communication Module (NCM) designed to enable communication between a Tricon controller, other Tricon systems, and external host systems over Ethernet (802.3) networks. The module processes data refreshed by the Main Processors once per scan, providing interface capability across safety and external network domains.

The module features two BNC connectors for network connectivity. Port NET 1 supports Peer-to-Peer and Time Synchronization protocols for safety networks consisting exclusively of Tricon controllers. Port NET 2 supports open networking to external host systems running applications such as TriStation 1131, SOE, OPC Server, DDE Server, or user-written software, including those utilizing the TSAA protocol. The Triconex NCM 4329 operates at 10 megabits per second over thin coaxial cable (RG58). Two 4329 modules can reside in one logical slot of a Tricon chassis to operate independently.

Features

  • Equipped with two BNC network connectors for RG58 50-ohm thin coaxial cable.
  • NET 1 port dedicated to Peer-to-Peer and Time Synchronization protocols between Tricon systems.
  • NET 2 port dedicated to external host applications, including TriStation 1131, SOE, OPC Server, and TSAA protocol.
  • Includes two 15-pin D-connectors for external transceivers and one RS-232 serial port.
  • Supports 500 VDC port isolation.
  • Operates at an Ethernet communication speed of 10 megabits per second.
  • Front panel diagnostic LED indicators for module and port status monitoring.

Applications

  • Inter-system Peer-to-Peer communication across dedicated Tricon safety networks.
  • Time synchronization across multiple Tricon controllers.
  • Data exchange with external host computers using TSAA (TCP(UDP)/IP/802.3) protocol.
  • Interfacing Tricon systems with TriStation 1131 programming software, SOE, OPC Server, and DDE Server.

Installation Guidelines

  • Enclosure Protection: The module must be housed in an appropriate NEMA-rated enclosure to provide protection against dust, airborne particles, and corrosive atmospheres.
  • Cable Distances: The BNC ports connect via RG58 coaxial cable at typical distances up to 185 meters (607 feet). Extended distances up to 4,000 meters (2.5 miles) require repeaters and thick-net or fiber-optic cabling.
  • Logical Slot Placement: Up to two NCMs can be installed in a single logical slot of the Tricon chassis; they function independently rather than as hot-spare modules.
  • Slot Covers: Unused slots in the chassis must be fitted with Blank I/O Slot Panels (Model 8105) to ensure proper cooling airflow.
