Description

The Allen-Bradley 1756-IF16K is a conformal-coated, non-isolated analog voltage/current input module designed for use within the ControlLogix system. The 1756-IF16K converts analog field signals into digital values for use by ControlLogix controllers. It supports single-ended, differential, and high-speed mode differential wiring configurations, providing flexibility for diverse system field-side interface requirements. Utilizing a Producer/Consumer communication model, the module multicasts data across the chassis backplane without requiring continuous controller polling.

Features

  • Conformal-coated option designated by the "K" catalog extension for enhanced protection in harsh industrial environments.
  • Supports Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP) for module and removable terminal block replacement without system interruption.
  • Flexible input channel configurations: 16 single-ended channels, 8 differential channels, or 4 high-speed differential channels.
  • User-configurable data formats supporting IEEE 32-bit floating point and 16-bit signed integer representations.
  • Configurable Real Time Sampling (RTS) and Requested Packet Interval (RPI) parameters for synchronized control system updates.
  • Built-in digital filtering and selectable module analog-to-digital converter filter bandwidths (10 Hz, 50/60 Hz, 100 Hz, 250 Hz, 1000 Hz).
  • Advanced channel alarm features including process alarms (High-High, High, Low, Low-Low) with deadbands, rate-of-change alarms, and wire-off detection.
  • Integrated rolling time stamp (15-bit timer with millisecond resolution) and Coordinated System Time (CST) access.

Applications

  • Distributed process control systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) architectures.
  • High-density voltage and current loop field sensor monitoring.
  • High-speed process monitoring requiring fast analog update rates.
  • Industrial applications requiring conformal coating for harsh environmental conditions.

Installation Guidelines

  • Mounting & Chassis Grounding: Install the module into any available slot of a grounded 1756 ControlLogix chassis.
  • Wiring Termination: Use compatible ControlLogix Removable Terminal Blocks (RTB models 1756-TBCH, 1756-TBNH, 1756-TBSH, 1756-TBS6H) or Bulletin 1492 Interface Modules (IFM) and cables.
  • Wiring Method Selection: Select single-ended wiring for maximum channel density (16 channels) with a common ground, differential wiring (8 channels) for improved noise immunity, or high-speed differential mode (4 channels).
  • ESD Protection: Observe strict electrostatic discharge precautions; touch a grounded object or wear an approved wriststrap prior to handling module circuit boards or connector pins.
  • Keying: Utilize the mechanical keying slots on the module and RTB to prevent incorrect wiring harness connections.
