Description

The GE Fanuc IC695PSD040 is a 40-Watt DC power supply module designed for use within the PACSystems RX3i programmable automation controller platform. Operating from an input voltage range of 18 VDC to 30 VDC , this power supply occupies a single backplane slot and supplies power directly to the backplane. It provides three key voltage outputs to support internal module operations and external relay logic: a +5.1 VDC output, a +3.3 VDC output (used internally by IC695 series modules), and a +24 VDC relay output to power circuits on Output Relay modules.

Designed for non-redundant and non-increased capacity applications, only a single IC695PSD040 power supply module may be installed within an RX3i Universal Backplane. If system current demands exceed the capacity of this 40-Watt supply, additional modules must be relocated to remote or expansion backplanes. The module features comprehensive diagnostic capability, enabling the CPU to log power supply faults, overtemperatures, or overload conditions directly in the CPU Fault Table.

Features

  • Three Output Voltages: Delivers +5.1 VDC, +3.3 VDC, and +24 VDC relay power directly to the backplane.
  • LED Status Indicators: Four front-panel LEDs provide immediate visual status for Power (Green/Amber), P/S Fault (Red), Over Temperature (Amber), and Overload (Amber).
  • On/Off Switch protection: The front-panel ON/OFF switch controls the outputs of the supply without interrupting line power. A projecting protective tab prevents accidental toggle actions.
  • Overcurrent and Thermal Protection: Incorporates electronic current limiting on the 5.1 VDC and 3.3 VDC outputs, alongside an internal fusible backup link.
  • Input Overvoltage Protection: Features a user-installable bottom terminal jumper strap to link overvoltage protection devices directly to the frame ground.

Applications

  • PACSystems RX3i Controller Systems: Provides base power to CPUs and I/O modules installed in standard universal backplanes.
  • Relay Logic Modules: Supplies +24 VDC relay output power to run external circuits on Output Relay modules.
  • Industrial DC Control Panels: Ideal for manufacturing facilities relying on 24 VDC nominal power distribution infrastructure.

Installation Guidelines

  • Wiring Capacity: Use wire rated for 90 Celsius. Ground and power terminals accept individual 14 AWG to 22 AWG copper wire.
  • Wire Preparation: Strip wire ends between 3/8 inch (9 mm) and 11 mm (.433 in). Ensure the wire is fully inserted past the internal insulation stop before tightening terminal screws to prevent loose connections.
  • Terminal Torques: Control terminals require a tightening torque of 9.6 to 11.5 in-lb. Input terminals require a torque of 4.4 in-lb (0.5 N-m).
  • Polarity Matching: When using a single external DC source to feed multiple power supplies, connection polarity must be identical across all RX3i power supplies to avoid hazardous potential differences.
  • System Grounding: All backplanes in the system must be linked to a common system ground. Ground wires must be kept as short as possible and connected directly to the mounting panel.
  • Hi-Pot Testing: To execute a high-potential test on this power supply, the overvoltage protection jumper between the bottom terminal and the frame ground terminal must be temporarily removed. Reinstall the jumper after testing.
  • System Incompatibility: This module is non-isolated and must not be used with floating or positive grounded electrical systems.

Compliance and Certifications

  • UL Hazardous Locations: Suitable for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, and D hazardous locations only.

GE Fanuc IC695PSD040 PACSystems RX3i DC Power Supply Module

Can I use the power supply in a redundant configuration?

No, the power supply cannot be used with other RX3i power supplies in redundant or increased capacity modes. Only one module can be installed in a PACSystems RX3i Universal Backplane.

What is the consequence of momentary voltage dropouts on this power supply?

A momentary loss of the 24 VDC input power causes an immediate loss of +24 VDC relay power, which may cause module relays to drop out. However, power dropouts up to 10 ms do not affect the 5.1 VDC and 3.3 VDC outputs.

How does the power supply handle output short circuits and overloads?

The power supply is electronically limited (7 Amps on 5.1 VDC and 10 Amps on 3.3 VDC) and will shut down if an overload or short circuit is detected. It will continuously attempt to restart until the overload condition is removed.

Are the electrical outputs of the power supply isolated?

No, the power supply is not isolated and is incompatible with positive grounded or floating electrical systems.
