Description

The ICS Triplex T8480 is a 40-channel Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) analog output module designed to interface with field devices in safety-critical applications. The T8480 delivers regulated current outputs with continuous diagnostic testing across triplicated output driver circuits to maintain high availability and fault tolerance. The module performs automatic line monitoring to detect open circuit and field supply voltage faults without interupting process operations. Operating within the Trusted system architecture, it communicates across the Inter-Module Bus (IMB) with onboard Sequence of Events (SOE) timestamping for precise event tracking.

Installation Guidelines

  • Visual Inspection: Visually inspect the module housing and back connector pins for damage prior to insertion. Do not attempt to straighten bent pins.
  • Keying and Polarization: Verify that keying pins 1, 6, and 7 are removed on the field cable assembly for keying compatibility.
  • Handling Precautions: Observe strict electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions. Do not touch exposed connector pins, and under no circumstances remove the module housing.
  • Unused Channels: Unused outputs should be commanded off within the application and wired through a 10 kOhm 0.5 W resistor to 0V to prevent open-circuit line fault detection.
  • Chassis Mounting: Slide the module into the designated slot until fully seated and lock the top and bottom ejector latches.
