Description
The BECKHOFF CX1020-0020 is a high-performance basic CPU module designed for modular control tasks within the Embedded PC system architecture. Equipped with an Intel Celeron M ULV processor operating at a 1 GHz clock speed, this unit provides a reliable processing platform for medium-scale automation, visualization, and communication applications in industrial environments.
The CX1020-0020 system is designed to mount directly onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail, serving as the central controller. It establishes connections to I/O systems, such as E-bus (EtherCAT Terminals) or K-bus (Bus Terminals), through an associated CX1100 series power supply module. This connection system provides stable electrical coupling and fast bus communication across the control rack.
For communication and networking, the module features two RJ45 Ethernet ports linked via an internal 3-port switch, simplifying daisy-chain wiring layouts. Data storage is handled via a dedicated Compact Flash slot, which houses the operating system and user files, while an internal, exchangeable battery backs up the integrated system clock.
Features
- Equipped with an Intel Celeron M ULV processor running at a 1 GHz clock frequency.
- Integrated dual RJ45 Ethernet ports operating at 10/100 Mbit/s with an internal network switch.
- Includes a front-accessible Compact Flash Type I and II slot with an integrated eject mechanism.
- Features integrated diagnostics LEDs indicating power status, network connection activity, software status, and flash memory access.
- Designed with a 16-bit ISA (PC/104) system bus for direct physical connection to expansion modules.
- Utilizes a fanless, passive cooling mechanism for high operational reliability and minimal maintenance.
Applications
- Centralized control units for medium-sized production machines and assembly lines.
- Industrial gateway modules and network nodes in distributed control networks.

Installation Guidelines
- Ensure that all power supplies to the control cabinet and the DIN rail are completely switched off before beginning installation.
- Mount the CX1020-0020 CPU module onto a clean, horizontal 35 mm DIN rail (EN 60715) by latching the integrated locking slide.
- Align the CPU module and slide it laterally into a compatible CX1100 series power supply module until the PC/104 system bus connectors are fully engaged.
- Verify that the Compact Flash card containing the operating system is correctly inserted and locked in the front-facing slot.
- Connect the RJ45 network cables to the Ethernet ports, ensuring that cable bend radiuses are maintained and shielding instructions are followed.
- Apply power through the CX1100 power supply module and monitor the diagnostic LEDs to verify proper system startup and bus status.
Replacement Recommendations
When replacing a CX1020-0020 basic CPU module, power down the entire control assembly. Remove all external RJ45 network cables and disconnect the CPU from the CX1100 power supply by releasing the side mounting lock. Carefully slide the module out of the PC/104 bus alignment. Prior to powering up the replacement unit, swap the original Compact Flash card into the new module to preserve the exact operating system image, local parameters, and PLC configurations.
