Description
The BECKHOFF IP2021-B518 is a high-performance decentralized fieldbus module designed to interface directly with digital actuators in harsh industrial environments. By distributing input and output capabilities directly onto machine structures, this module eliminates the need for expensive protective enclosures and extensive routing of individual signal cables. It acts as an efficient decentralized node within a CANopen network, handling digital control tasks with elevated reliability.
Equipped with 8 digital outputs, the BECKHOFF IP2021-B518 provides a reliable system interface to drive local loads such as contactors, valves, solenoids, and indicators. The fieldbus connections are established via a physical T-connector structure featuring integrated M12 connectors. This design simplifies CANopen line topology installation by enabling direct daisy-chain configurations without requiring additional external splitters.
Constructed from robust polyamide materials, the module achieves exceptional resilience against mechanical stress, vibration, and liquid ingress. Its space-efficient, sealed housing makes it suitable for placement on manufacturing equipment, robotic arms, and conveyors where physical protection and high-vibration resistance are paramount.

Installation Guidelines
- Ensure the entire industrial automation system and all associated power supplies are fully de-energized before beginning installation.
- Mount the module securely using the two 3.5 mm diameter fixing holes with M3 screws on a flat machine surface.
- Connect the CANopen network cables using the integrated M12 T-connector ports. Securely tighten the connector collars to protect against moisture ingress.
- Wire the 24 V DC control voltage supply to the M8 4-pin male input feed connector. If daisy-chaining power, connect the downstream M8 female connector to the next module.
- Connect the digital actuators to the designated M8 output channels, ensuring correct wiring configuration and proper tightness.
- Set the appropriate CANopen node address and parameters within your master controller software (e.g., TwinCAT) before system startup.
Replacement Recommendations
When replacing an existing module, document the active CANopen node configuration and physical port assignments first. Ensure power is switched off before disconnecting any M8 or M12 connections. Mount the replacement module, connect all cables securely to maintain the IP67 sealing rating, and load the corresponding hardware configuration to restore machine operation.
