Description
Designed to transmit both EtherCAT communication and electrical power through a single integrated line, the Beckhoff ZB7210-0250 establishes secure physical layer connections in dynamic industrial networks. This high-flexibility cable contains a dedicated 4-core Ethernet element alongside three heavy-gauge power conductors, eliminating the need for separate data and power lines. Built with a rugged polyurethane jacket, the ZB7210-0250 maintains signal integrity and power transmission under continuous mechanical stress.
Features
-
Drag-Chain Suitability: Engineered with high-flex stranding to withstand continuous bending and linear movement in automated machinery.
-
PUR Outer Jacket: Polyurethane sheath offers high resistance to mineral oils, chemical exposure, abrasion, and mechanical tearing.
-
Dual-Purpose Core Design: Combines a 4-core Ethernet star-quad element with 3 dedicated power conductors inside a single outer diameter.
-
Standardized Coding: Features a black jacket with a distinct red stripe for immediate visual identification as an EtherCAT P circuit, preventing connection errors.
Applications
- Multi-axis gantry robots and dynamic motion control systems.
- Industrial drag chains requiring reliable 100 Mbps data and supply voltage routing.
- Harsh manufacturing environments demanding oil-resistant and wear-resistant cabling.

Empirical Engineering Insights
Alternative Models & Compatibility
This cable is purpose-built for the EtherCAT P standard (combining US and UP voltages on the signal lines). It must not be confused with standard green-jacketed EtherCAT cabling. When terminating or connecting this cable, always pair it with authorized EtherCAT P connectors (such as M8 or B23 sizes) designed to separate power and communication paths properly.
Application Pitfalls & Engineering Notes
Because this specific variant is unshielded overall, installers must avoid laying this cable parallel to heavy-duty, high-voltage motor or variable frequency drive (VFD) output lines inside the same drag chain. High-frequency noise from unshielded VFD lines can couple into the unshielded data pairs, leading to CRC errors and lost EtherCAT packets.
Commissioning & Wiring Tips
When stripping the outer PUR jacket, take extreme care not to nick the insulation of the inner 4-core Ethernet star-quad or the three 2.5 mm2 power wires. For dynamic applications, always observe the minimum bending radius specified for dynamic operation to prevent premature conductor fatigue.
Installation Guidelines
CRITICAL WARNING
Always isolate all system power sources (both communication logic power and field load power) before routing, cutting, or terminating the cable. Failure to de-energize the lines before connection can result in short circuits across the EtherCAT P power pins, damaging sensitive downstream bus couplers and terminal modules.
1
Lay the cable completely flat before installing it into a drag chain; do not pull it directly off a reel from the side to avoid introducing internal twist.
2
Ensure the cable is not clamped or restricted at the bending arcs within the drag chain to allow free movement of the internal cores.
3
Terminate using standard EtherCAT P field-assembly connectors, verifying that the 4 Ethernet data cores and 3 power cores are aligned to the correct terminal pins.
