Description

Engineered for highly precise machinery protection, the Bently Nevada 330101-00-38-90-02-00 standard proximity probe provides critical shaft vibration and position feedback in rotating machinery. Part of the 3300 XL 8 mm Proximity Transducer System, this eddy current sensor is designed for non-contacting displacement measurement. This specific configuration stands out due to its fully threaded 3.8-inch case (0.0-inch unthreaded length) and an extended 9.0-meter (29.5 feet) total length. By opting for the 9.0-meter cable, the probe is routed directly to a 9-meter Proximitor sensor without the need for an intermediate extension cable, reducing connection points and potential signal degradation in harsh monitoring environments. This unarmored probe comes equipped with standard miniature ClickLoc coaxial connectors and is certified for general purpose installations where hazardous area approvals are not required.

Features

  • Eddy-current operating principle for non-contact shaft vibration and displacement monitoring.
  • Robust 8 mm tip constructed of high-grade polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) for superior resistance to chemical attack.
  • Unthreaded length of 0.0 inches and overall case length of 3.8 inches, fully threaded with standard 3/8-24 UNF threads.
  • Integrated 9.0-meter (29.5 feet) standard triaxial cable, eliminating the requirement for an extension cable in 9-meter system chains.
  • Patented TipLoc molding process creates a rugged bond between the probe tip and stainless steel case.
  • Equipped with a gold-plated miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector for low-resistance, reliable connections.
  • Fully backwards compatible and interchangeable with legacy non-XL 3300 series transducer components.

Applications

  • Steam and gas turbine radial vibration and axial position measurement.
  • Centrifugal compressor and pump rotor displacement monitoring.
  • Fluid-film bearing oil film thickness and clearance verification.
  • Thrust bearing wear detection and early-warning machinery shutdown systems.
  • Keyphasor reference and phase angle measurements for rotating equipment diagnostics.

Connections and Interfaces

This probe connects directly to the monitoring instrument chain via its integrated coaxial cable. The gold-plated male connector pairs tightly to prevent signal attenuation.

Connector Configuration Gold-plated miniature male coaxial ClickLoc connector
Standard Interface Connects directly to 3300 XL 9-meter Proximitor Sensors without an extension cable
Recommended Tightening Torque Finger tight for gold-on-gold ClickLoc connections

Installation Guidelines

  • Clean the mounting threads thoroughly before screwing the probe into place.
  • Ensure proper spacing by setting the static probe gap per calibration instructions. The recommended target gap is -9 Vdc, which corresponds to approximately 1.27 mm (50 mils) of distance from the AISI 4140 steel target.
  • Do not exceed the maximum rated installation torque of 22.6 Nm (200 in-lbf) for standard forward-mounted probes. The first three threads should be tightened to a maximum of 7.5 Nm (66 in-lbf).
  • Route the FEP-insulated coaxial cable carefully inside dedicated industrial conduits or trays. Maintain a minimum bend radius of 25.4 mm (1.0 in) to prevent jacket shearing or conductor damage.

Compliance and Certifications

  • CE Mark compliant for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) without requiring special shielded conduit.
  • RoHS compliant for hazardous chemical restrictions.
  • Safe for general use in non-explosive, general purpose industrial facilities (Option 00).

Technical Datasheet

Bently Nevada 330101-00-38-90-02-00 3300 XL 8 mm Proximity Probe

What is the unique feature of the 330101-00-38-90-02-00 probe?

This probe configuration is unarmored and features a 0.0-inch unthreaded case, a 3.8-inch case length, and an extended 9.0-meter cable length. This 9.0-meter cable allows direct connection to a 9-meter Proximitor sensor without using an extension cable, simplifying the setup.

Does this 9.0-meter total length probe require an intermediate extension cable?

No. Because this probe has the 90 length option, its integrated cable is already 9.0 meters long, designed to connect directly to a 9-meter 3300 XL Proximitor sensor.

Can this proximity probe be used in hazardous environments?

No. This probe has the -00 approval option, meaning it is not certified for hazardous areas (like ATEX or CSA) and is intended for general-purpose, non-hazardous industrial environments.

What is the standard mounting thread for the 330101 probe?

The standard thread size for the 330101 model probe is a 3/8-24 UNF-2A thread. For metric thread options, the 330103 model is typically used.
