Description

The Honeywell FX-USI-0002 is a Universal Safety Interface Module designed for Ethernet and serial communication within Honeywell Safety Manager systems. Located inside the Controller chassis (compatible with CPCHAS-0001, CPCHAS-0002, or CPCHAS-0003), it links the Safety Manager core to external systems such as Experion PKS control networks and Safety Builder engineering stations.

The module is powered by a Motorola 8270 communication processor and includes 8 MB Flash memory for executable application code, 8 MB Local SRAM with Error Detecting and Correcting (EDAC) logic, and 256 KB Shared RAM for fast data exchange with the main Control Processor. It acts as an integrated hardware firewall to safeguard underlying safety loops while simultaneously processing multiple demanding industrial protocols.

Featuring four independent physical channels—two auto-ranging 10/100 Mb Fast Ethernet interfaces and two general-purpose serial channels—the Honeywell FX-USI-0002 supports robust field networks, including EUCN protocol execution and FSC-SM SafeNet configurations. Installation Guidelines

1. Verify that the Controller chassis slot power supply is within the designated 5 V DC ± 5% tolerance before inserting the module.
2. Inspect the rear backplane connectors and front port jacks for dust, debris, or bent pins.
3. Slide the module into the designated slot of the CPCHAS chassis until the rear connectors mate securely with the backplane.
4. Tighten the retaining screws to ensure stable mechanical mounting and proper chassis grounding connection.
5. Connect RJ45 Ethernet cables to Channel A or B for system integration or Experion PKS networks.
6. Connect 10-pin AMP serial communication cables to Channel C or D via DCOM interface converters if using serial protocol loops.

Configuration and Replacement Recommendations

• Speed/Duplex Network Setting: While Ethernet channels support auto-ranging between 10 Mb and 100 Mb, configuring the connected switch port to fixed 100MB/Full Duplex is recommended for optimal safety communication stability.
• Backward Compatibility: The FX-USI-0002 can directly replace older FC-USI-0001, FC-USI-0002, and FE-USI-0002 modules on Safety Manager systems running software release R140 or higher.
• Hot-Swap Execution: The module is fully hot-swappable. When inserting a replacement module into an operational chassis, verify that the STATUS LED transition sequence clears error codes and turns solid green.
• QPP Switch Interaction: Note that when the Quad Processor Pack (QPP) key switch is set to the 'STOP' position, the STATUS LED on the FX-USI-0002 turns off as part of its hardware reset state.
