Product Description

Description

The Foxboro FBM214 is an analog/HART input module designed for process control and interface applications within the I/A Series system. The FBM214 contains eight group-isolated analog input channels, each supporting either a standard 4 to 20 mA analog signal or a digital HART Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) signal superimposed on a 4 to 20 mA analog input. Each channel features a dedicated FSK modem that enables bi-directional digital communication with connected HART field devices at 1200 baud. An integrated Sigma-Delta converter delivers 15-bit resolution and updates analog input values for all channels every 100 ms. The module serves as a HART communications field device host, handling point-to-point, master/slave digital message transfers at a rate of 2 messages per second using HART Protocol v6. It interfaces with the redundant 2 Mbps module Fieldbus and provides a common isolated 24 V dc internal power supply for loop-powered devices, with options for external power configurations using a Cable Balun module.

Features

  • Eight group-isolated input channels accepting standard 4 to 20 mA or superimposed digital HART FSK signals.
  • Dedicated FSK modem per input channel for bi-directional digital communications with HART devices.
  • Onboard Sigma-Delta analog-to-digital converter providing 15-bit resolution and a 100 ms update rate per channel.
  • Galvanic group isolation of all 8 input channels from ground and module logic.
  • Support for HART Protocol v6 master/slave communication at 1200 baud with asynchronous, half-duplex transmission.
  • Dual communication capability over redundant 2 Mbps Fieldbus path A and path B.
  • Integrated isolated 24 V dc power supply for powering field transmitters across all channels.
  • Compact, rugged extruded aluminum housing designed for mounting in Class G3 harsh environments.
  • Front panel Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) for visual monitoring of operational status and channel communication activity.

Applications

  • Interface for HART-enabled field transmitters (temperature, pressure, flow, level).
  • Process control monitoring requiring high-accuracy 4 to 20 mA analog input acquisition.
  • Distributed control system integration via redundant 2 Mbps Fieldbus networks.
  • Hazardous area field wiring connections utilizing associated apparatus and non-incendive circuits.
